Background
For many years Australians and New Zealander's were unaware that Noritake had been made for our two nations. During the Period 1924 to 1939, Australians and New Zealander's oversaw the -
- Design
- Importation; and
- Distribution
of what we now know as Art Deco Noritake, or Old Noritake.Prior to 1924 Noritake was sold by the then Noritake China Company out of Sydney New South Wales, and on sold to New Zealand by LD Nathan and Co. After 1924 Nippon Toki Kaisha Limited of Japan, Present Day Noritake Co of Japan appointed Agents to handle business directly in the South States and also in New Zealand. NTK continued to managed both the states of Queensland and New South Wales until the full impact of the Economic Recession of 1929 impacted there operations and it was at this stage that a new Agent was appointed to handle the Northern States of Australia operation. This was undertaken by A.J. CHOWN limited of Sydney.
During this 1930's under the expert leadership of the newly appointed Australian and New Zealand Agents, Noritake China flourished utilising their established Networks from wholesale through to the retail market. It is this fine bone porcelain which collectors from both New Zealand and Australia enjoy and collecting with such fever to this day.
